Udupi: Experts re-examine ancient copper inscription at Talluru temple

A team led by Dr. G V Kallapura, founder director of Sriniketana Museum and Keladi Rani Chennammaji Study Centre, Kukke Subrahmanya, along with deputy director Shruthesh Acharya Moodubelle, re-examined a copper inscription at Talluru Shri Mahalingeshwara temple.

The inscription was re-examined as permission for the same was given by the administrative trustee of the temple, Doddamane Tallur Vasanth R Hegde.

Kallapura said that this copper inscription, which begins with a Shaiva invocation, dates back to the era of Keladi King Basappa Nayaka II (1740-55 CE). The inscription, which is in Kannada script, contains 27 lines on the obverse and 13 lines on the reverse. The inscription is also inscribed in Sanskrit.
