Heavy rainfall battered Dakshina Kannada throughout Monday, inundating low-lying areas and causing severe disruptions. Streets in Mangaluru turned into pools of water, with rainwater flooding basement shops and overflowing manholes.
The downpour quickly filled drains and flooded roads in several areas in Mangaluru, causing traffic jams near City Centre Mall, Hampankatta, Jyothi, Bejai and Kottara Chowki. On KS Road, a clogged drain in front of the Ganesh Mahal building allowed rainwater to enter basement shops, inconveniencing both business owners and customers at nearby eateries. Meanwhile, the stormwater drain at Kodialbail overflowed, flooding several houses, and the Kudroli Bhagavathi temple, along with surrounding residences, also suffered water damage. Pumpwell Junction, beneath the flyover, was submerged, and the stormwater canal overflowed, temporarily disrupting traffic.
