PEOPLE often mistake resistant hypertension for stress or improper medication doses.

It's a condition where blood pressure remains high (above 140/90mmHg) despite taking three or more medications, including a diuretic, say doctors.

Resistant hypertension is under-recognized and frequently misattributed to inadequate treatment, but it's a sign of a deeper, underlying issue, says Dr. Ajith Pillai, Chief Cardiologist and Head of Department, Kauvery Hospital, Chennai.
