Belthangady taluk in the district tops the chart with 2,65,063 person days of work
WITH just one-and-a-half months to go in the current financial year, Dakshina Kannada could execute only 3,929 commissioned works (38.16% work completion rate) under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) to date, as per the data sourced from the website of Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.
As per the data available on the RDPR website, 10,296 works were taken up in 2024-25 and so far, 3,929 works have been completed with 6,367 works pending. Only Puttur taluk has managed to achieve 59% of work completion rate compared to other taluks. In 2023-24, the district had taken up 12,900 works and executed 10,868 works (84.25% work completion rate) with 2,032 works pending.
However, officials say that most of the works shown as incomplete have already been executed and there is a technical issue in the statistics updated on the website.
Speaking to The New Indian Express, MGNREGA nodal officer Jayalakshmi Raikod said sometimes there is delay in updating the progress report or the statistics on the website by local officials.
