CPM Seeks Probe Into Gas Leak Mishap

- ENS @ Mangaluru

Two field operators in the Oil Movement Area (OMS) at MRPL on duty reportedly died of inhaling H2S gas following a leakage in the unit on Saturday. The deceased workers are Deep Chandra, aged 33, from Prayagraj and Bijil Prasad, aged 33, from Kerala.

MRPL officials in a press communique said that the incident occurred at around 8 am when these two experienced field operators went on top of the tank platform to check the suspected level malfunction of tank FB7029 A (Dry slop service floating roof) in the OMS area of MRPL. Both employees were found unconscious on the tank rooftop platform. They were given first aid and subsequently shifted to a nearby hospital. Both could not be revived and were declared dead.

The third MRPL field operator (Vinayak Myageri), who went on top to rescue them, was also admitted to the hospital. He is stable and under observation.
