SEVERAL residents alleged that a lack of proper drainage system has lead to severe waterlogging issues at various locations across Madurai.
The city has been witnessing sporadic rainfall accompanied by intense gale for consecutive days. The hour-long rainfall has caused waterlogging at several areas across Madurai city.
Though the city corporation is taking immediate measures to clear off the water stagnation, puddles of water are still seen in many roads across the city, residents alleged.
Urging the city corporation to improve the drain systems across the city, A Karthik, a resident said, "Just a few minutes of rain would leave the Villapuram-MMC colony road to be flooded with rainwater. Corporation workers have to manually drain off the water logging in several low-lying areas. The city corporation should take immediate action towards developing the stormwater drains system in the city."
Official sources from the city corporation said that the open drains are being desilted as temporary measure, to ensure the rainwater gets drained off from the roads.
