ANCIENT megalithic monuments in Palkudi village in Katchirapatti panchayat of Melur taluk were documented by members of Madurai Nature Club Foundation (MNCF), who also urged the district administration and the archaeological department to make efforts to protect these monuments.
MNCF Coordinator Tamilthasan said Palkudi village is located near the foothills of Aruvimalai in Kottakudi panchayat. At the top of the hill is a rock-cut Shiva temple from the 13th century Pirapandiyar era and the temple pathway has a number of steps with inscriptions in ancient
