Second edition of State Special Olympics begins in Kozhikode

HUNDREDS of special needs athletes gathered at the Olympian Rahman Ground, located on the Government Medical College campus in Kozhikode, as the three-day State Special Olympics kicked off on Friday.
The Special Olympics is organised by the Kerala chapter of Special Olympics Bharat, a National Sports Federation registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882, in collaboration with Kozhikode corporation.
The initiative is aimed at nurturing the abilities of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
As many as 495 competitions are being held in 24 sports such as running, walking, long jump, and softball throw. About 5,000 specially-abled people are participating in the meet. Corporation Mayor Beena Philip hoisted the flag on Friday. Athletes across five age groups from all over Kerala from 245 institutions are part of the event.
