The state-of-the-art Robotic surgery has witnessed a significant growth in India in recent years, transforming the healthcare landscape offering precision, minimally invasive procedures and faster recovery for patients.

Despite these advancements, several limitations, including high costs, limited access and regulatory gaps, continue to challenge the widespread adoption of robot-assisted surgery across the country.

As of mid-2025, according to available data, India has installed over 220 robotic surgery systems. This number is relatively small when compared to the over 70,000 hospitals in the country, but it represents a significant increase from previous years. Both public and private healthcare institutions are investing in robotic surgery systems, indicating a growing confidence in the technology's potential to revolutionise surgical outcomes.

Projected Shift

According to a report by Global Data, India is expected to account for 6% of the Asia-Pacific robotic surgery market in 2024. The market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20% between 2024 and 2036. The revenue from robotic surgical systems in India is estimated to reach $388.7 million in 2030, up from $169.1 million in 2024. The primary specialties embracing this technology include orthopaedics, gynaecology, neurology and urology.

One of the most significant advantages of robotic surgery is its ability to perform complex procedures with high precision using small incisions. The da Vinci Surgical System, the most commonly used robotic platform in India, allows surgeons to control robotic arms with high dexterity and magnified 3D visualisation. These features reduce the chances of human error, minimise bleeding and shorten hospital stays.
