Chennithala alleges graft in Maniyar power project contract extension move

SENIOR Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has strongly opposed the state government's move to extend the 30-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract for the Maniyar Hydro Power Project to Carborundum, a private company.
He termed the decision a "corruption" and called into question the role of key state ministers in the deal.
Chennithala accused the chief minister and industries minister of undermining the position of the electricity minister, claiming that the latter has been forced to sign off on decisions made by higher authorities. He also suggested that the industries minister is colluding with private corporations to facilitate personal profits, at the cost of public interest.
