Banana plants take time to bear fruit, Rs 1 lakh fine imposed on nursery

ALAVI Kottur, a banana farmer from the district, was so hopeful when he bought 200 banana saplings from a private nursery — Chungathara Agricultural Nursery and Garden. He leased a land to cultivate bananas, keeping an eye on the Onam market. The nursery owners promised him that the bananas would be ready for harvest within ten months and offered a huge profit. He paid Rs 3,425 for the 200 saplings he bought. He watered and fertilised the saplings with big dreams.
