The Punjab government has decided to hire 100 retired medical specialists as consultants through walk-in interviews in district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and community health centres (CHCs).

- Harpreet Bajwa @Chandigarh

According to sources, the decision has been made in response to the severe shortage of medical specialists in government hospitals across the state. Approximately 47% posts of sanctioned specialists are lying vacant across the state, they added. Out of 2,098 sanctioned specialist posts, 990 remain vacant. Additionally, there are vacancies among general medical officers. Around 1,962 posts are yet to be filled out of the 3,847 posts.
