Woman who wrote UPSC exam 13 days after delivery secures 45th rank

BARELY a fortnight after delivery, when most new mothers would still be recovering from childbirth and adjusting to sleepless nights, Malavika G Nair did the unthinkable. She appeared for the UPSC civil services examinations, one of the toughest exams in the country, on September 20, 2024, just 13 days after delivering her baby.
And on Tuesday, when the results of the exam were published, the 32-year-old Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from Chengannur secured an all India rank of 45.
She achieved the feat in what was her sixth and final shot at her dream of joining the IAS.
"I knew this was my final opportunity," Malavika told a news channel. "I didn't want to let it slip by, no matter the circumstances," said the IRS officer of the 2019-20 batch.
