Second Synchronised Survey of Nilgiri Tahrs to be Held from April 24

THE state forest department is gearing up for the second annual synchronised survey of the Nilgiri Tahr in the Munnar wildlife division from April 24.
The survey will employ advanced methodologies like the Bounded Count and Double Observer techniques, tailored for fragmented and contiguous habitats, especially near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.
Held in 2024, the first synchronised census of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr in the forest area under the Munnar wildlife division had sighted 827 tahrs. A total of 144 newborns were found in the survey.
