AFTER spending 45 years in Abu Dhabi, Thankachan Yohannan returned home not in despair but with a determination to begin afresh.

- JAISON WILSON @Pathanamthitta

A resident of Puthumala near Adoor in Pathanamthitta district, he saw an opportunity as an entrepreneur. His passion was soon transforming jackfruit, a humble Malayali favourite, into a brand with a wide range of innovative products.

Now, his venture 'Star Jack' is a thriving enterprise with an annual turnover of around Rs 45 lakh. From jackfruit biscuits and cookies to halwa, biryani, buns and even jackfruit powder, the brand now offers over 60 value-added products. Recently, Thankachan's efforts were recognised with a state-level award by the department of agriculture in the category for individuals excelling in jackfruit processing.
