THE shortage of palliative nurses within the corporation limits is creating a crisis in patient care. Despite conducting three rounds of interviews, the corporation has been unable to fill the vacancies as certified candidates failed to turn up.
According to health department sources, 19 divisions of Kollam Corporation currently lack palliative care, affecting around 2,000 families. Patients in the 21 divisions under the Kollam Main Family Health Centre (FHC) are bearing the brunt of the shortage. Since this FHC covers more divisions than others, two primary palliative nurses were assigned here, but both left after securing jobs elsewhere.
