China Starts Building Mega Dam Amid Concerns in India

CHINA has begun constructions for a mega hydro-electric project on river Yarlung Tsangpo in the Nyingchi region of south-eastern Tibet.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended the project commencement ceremony on Saturday, according to Chinese state-run media. Beijing approved the multi-billion-dollar project in 2023. The hydro-electric project, said to be the largest of its kind in the project, will generate 60,000 MW of power. Yarlung Tsangpo enters Arunachal Pradesh as Siang and becomes Brahmaputra in Assam before flowing into Bangladesh.
