Lingayats staged peaceful rally on December 10, but cops resorted to lathicharge, says Swamiji
Kudalasangama Panchamasali Peetha seer Basava Jaya Mruthyunjaya Swamiji has urged the chief minister to take immediate steps to constitute a Commission of Inquiry headed by a retired judge for probing the police action taken on December 10, 2024 in Belagavi against activists of Lingayat Panchamasali community as per the orders of the Dharwad Bench of the High Court.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Basava Jaya Mruthyunjaya Swamiji said that activists of Lingayat Panchamasali community staged a massive rally and held a dharna in front of Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi on December 10, demanding the government to provide reservation under 2A category to Lingayat Panchamasali community. Although the protest was peaceful, the police unnecessarily resorted to lathicharge. Many activists of the community sustained serious injuries in the lathicharge, he alleged.
