COAI Concerns Over Low Satellite Spectrum Pricing

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), which represents private telecom service providers including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, has raised concerns that their businesses could suffer if India prices satellite spectrum at "unjustifiably low" rates.
They argue such pricing would benefit satellite internet services like Elon Musk's Starlink at the expense of existing terrestrial networks. In a letter to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), COAI warned satellite communication (satcom) services are fast becoming direct competitors to traditional telecom networks.
