Farmers from Gadag protest against APMC shop owners, also demand support price
SUDDEN crash in the prices of tomatoes has put farmers of Gadag district in a tight spot. Tomatoes that were being sold for Rs 30 per kg are now selling at Rs 2 per kg in the APMC market. The pre-monsoon showers has forced the farmers to bring the harvest to the APMC market after the prices started falling from last week. Many farmers were worried that if the rainfall continues, they would lose all their crop and hence they are bringing their crop to the market in large quantities.
The pre-monsoon rains damaged the tomato crop due to which many farmers could make profit of even a single rupee.
