Task force to tackle illegal animal slaughter, meat transport

IN an effort to prevent potential clashes among pro-Hindu activists and animal welfare organisations over illegal slaughterhouses, meat supply and animal transportation for slaughter, the district administration has formed a task force to monitor and regulate unauthorised activities related to animal slaughter and meat transport.
The task force will ensure the implementation of the Karnataka Cattle Slaughter, Prevention and Protection Act-2020 and Prevention of Unauthorized Animal Slaughter and Transportation.
Task force committees have been established at the taluk level, each chaired by the Tahsildars, police officers, Taluka Panchayat Executive Officers, municipal or urban local body officers, and doctors from the animal husbandry department.
