HDMC told to resolve issue to bring every property under tax net

IN the wake of rampant mismatch between the number of houses with HESCOM electricity meters and property numbers in Hubballi-Dharwad coming to light, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has been asked to resolve this and ensure coordination, so that every property in the twin cities is brought under the tax net.

Although the discrepancy in the numbers is not new, it was widely discussed during the recent progress review meeting of the HDMC and the Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HDUDA). It was stressed in the meeting that there is a need for improved tax collection, noting that thousands of unauthorised sites and constructions have emerged, which are causing difficulties in providing civic amenities and basic infrastructure.
