11-Month-Old Baby Tests Positive for Covid in Hubballi

DAYS after the first Covid-19 case was reported in Dharwad, a second case has been detected in Hubballi. A 11-month-old baby from Bairidevarkoppa has tested positive for the virus and is currently undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital in Hubballi.
Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu confirmed that the infant has no travel history. "The baby was unwell and subsequently tested for Covid-19. The results confirmed the infection," she said.
She urged the public not to panic, citing high vaccination coverage and no current evidence that the new strain is causing severe harm. "However, caution is essential. The Health Department is actively monitoring the situation," she added.
The DC advised the public, especially children, to wear masks. "People suffering from cold or allergies must wear masks and follow Covid protocols, like it was done during the pandemic. Masks should also be worn in crowded public areas, not just to prevent Covid-19, but also to guard oneself against other contagious illnesses and seasonal allergies," she emphasised.
