Illegal mining: Report on action taken sought

STATING that minerals are assets of the country and as such cannot be allowed to be looted, the Madras High Court on Wednesday sought a report from the director of Geology and Mining on the action taken against illegal mining of minerals in the state.
A division bench of justices SM Subramaniam and C Kumarappan issued the direction while hearing a petition filed by P Natesan of Dharmapuri seeking action to remove encroachments at Nekkundhi village in the district.
