CM Introduces Two Bills To Nominate Disabled People To All TN Local Bodies

No election for these posts; urban bodies with over 100 members to have 2 PwD nominees
TWO Bills to amend the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998, and the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, 1994, which would ensure the nomination of persons with disabilities (PwD) to all local bodies in the state to ensure that their voices are heard in local governance, were introduced in the Assembly on Wednesday.
Chief Minister MK Stalin introduced these Bills to fulfil the announcement he made on February 27 while speaking at a function that adequate representation of differently-abled persons will be ensured by nominating them to all urban and rural local bodies.
Stalin said that only 35 PwDs serve as elected members in urban local bodies.
