Access denied to temple, dalit villagers petition K'giri collector

AROUND 20 SC villagers near Uthangarai petitioned the district collector, stating that caste Hindu families have not allowed them to worship in a temple for the past five years, citing that the land belongs to caste Hindus.

According to the petitioner, M Shankar (43), a villager from Vennampatti village near Uthangarai, over 60 Arunthathiyar families living in the village have been worshipping Mariyamman for over four decades. The temple was constructed a decade ago, but in 2020, a caste Hindu man
