6% decline in crime in '24 from '23: NCRB data

THE latest report of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) has revealed that the country recorded 58.85 lakh cases of crime in 2024, which is a 6% drop from 2023, when 62.41 lakh cases were reported.
The rate of such incidents, which is a measure of cases registered per lakh of population, has also dropped from 448.3 in 2023 to 418.9 in 2024.
Cases registered under the “Hurt” category registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 325-326 and 329-335 saw amajor decline of 30.58%, from over 6.36 lakh cases in 2023 to just over 4.41 lakh cases in 2024, the data showed.
