Slaughter of goats near temple halted

THE Madurai city police on Saturday prevented Muslims from taking goats and chickens for slaughter and organised a feast at the Hazrat Sultan Sikkandar Badusha Dargah, located near Tiruparankundram Hill.
They had attempted to take goats for the Kanduri festival to the dargah last month, but the police prevented them from doing so, claiming that while they can offer worship at the dargah, they do not have permission to sacrifice the animals. Muslim outfits registered their protest against the police's statements.
