SC asks Centre to 'do something' in making snakebite treatment available

NOTING that snakebites were prevalent throughout the country, the Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to take states on board to "do something" in making treatment available in medical facilities.

A bench of Justice B R Gavai and Justice S V N Bhatti was hearing a plea that said the country faced a significant public health crisis due to the scarcity of anti-venom, crucial in treating snakebites.

The bench said the country faces a public health crisis due to scarcity of anti-venom. "Hold a meeting with the representatives of the states and try to do something," the bench told the Centre's counsel.
