Committee recommends immediate release of funds to three states
AMID an ongoing row between the centre and the Tamil Nadu government, a parliamentary panel has taken a "serious note" of the withholding of funds for not adopting the PM Shri scheme and has described it as "unjustifiable."
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports, led by Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh, has not only recommended the immediate release of pending funds to Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal but also that the issue be "amicably" resolved.
The three states have refused to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre to implement the central government's flagship PM Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI). The PM-Shri aims to upgrade over 14,000 schools and transform them into model educational institutions that embody the spirit of the National Education Policy -2020.
