JPC on simultaneous polls to hold second meeting on January 31

THE second meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining bills on 'One Nation, One Election' (ONOE) will be held on January 31, according to the government.

The first meeting of the JPC saw strong exchange of opinions by the opposition members and BJP MPs on the proposed legislation on conducting simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The two bills—Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill—were introduced in Lok Sabha during the recent Winter Session and referred to the committee.
