US tariffs: Analysts see rupee falling to 90 level
The New Indian Express Bengaluru
|September 02, 2025
THE deepening trade tension between New Delhi and Washington that began with the US slapping an additional 25% punitive tariffs on India's exports from last week may force rupee to plunge past 90 mark, unless the central bank props it up, warn economists.
Despite the broader market getting a leg-up from the unexpectedly high 7.8% GDP print in June quarter, rupee hit a record intra-day low for the second straight session on Monday. However, it pared the losses to end flat, closing 1 paisa up at 88.20 against greenback after falling to a record low of 88.34.
