Suspected Nipah virus patient dies in Kerala, tests negative

A potential Nipah virus scare has subsided in Malappuram, Kerala, as the Health Department confirmed that a 78-year-old woman who died on Wednesday and was considered high-risk tested negative for the virus.
The woman, from Parappanangadi, had been treated alongside an 18-year-old girl who previously succumbed to Nipah.
The woman's death prompted immediate action, with samples sent for urgent testing to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.
Funeral rites were temporarily postponed as a precautionary measure.
