WEST Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached out to the state's junior doctors on Monday, withdrawing their suspensions in a Midnapore hospital and announcing a slew of measures, including a hiked stipend for interns, house staff and post-doctoral trainee doctors.

Addressing the 'Chikitsar Arek Naam Seva' programme, Banerjee said, "The salaries of interns, house staff, postgraduate trainees and post-doctoral trainees are being raised ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 for senior doctors. The suspension of the junior doctors at the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital is also being withdrawn."

She sought to build bridges with them after the junior doctors took to the streets against her government following the rape and murder of a PG trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 last year.
