Will conflict in West Asia put 35% of remittances at risk?

THE ongoing geopolitical crisis in West Asia could have a significant impact on India’s inward remittances, experts cautioned.
Although the share of remittances coming from Gulf countries has declined in recent years, the region still accounts for about 35-40% of total inflows.With exports getting disrupted and many residents currently stuck in India, there is a possibility that inward remittances may decline in the near term.
According to media reports, nearly 52,000 passengers arrived in India from West Asia between February 28 and March 6.
