Updated action plan to tackle biodiversity loss sets 23 goals

INDIA launched an updated biodiversity action plan, outlining 23 objectives to reduce threats to biodiversity, ensure sustainable use of resources, and enhance tools for implementation in next five years.

Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh released the updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) at the 16th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP 16) to UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Cali, Colombia.

"Released India's updated National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan," said Singh in a post on X.

India's targets aligned with the 23 global goals set under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which was adopted at the 15th UN Biodiversity Conference in Canada in 2022.
