SC refuses urgent listing of plea against India-Pak match

Verdict reserved in Presidential reference case

THE Supreme Court on Thursday refused to list an urgent PIL seeking the cancellation of the cricket match between India and Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup.
The plea can only be heard in due course of time. Notably, arch-rivals India and Pakistan have a league match scheduled for September 14 in the ongoing 17th Edition of the Asia Cup in the UAE (United Arab Emirates).
The PIL, filed by a group of law students led by Urvashi Jain, stated, "Allowing the game to proceed in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor is inconsistent with national dignity and public sentiment."
They said the match would send the wrong message while soldiers continue to make sacrifices at the border.
