A peek into the UT government's myriad of efforts towards casting a wide social welfare net for all of its citizens and beyond

ROBUST APPROACH TO WELFARE BENEFITS ALL

AMID the serene landscapes of Puducherry a small union territory nestled in the southeastern coast of India, a silent revolution is underway. The Puducherry government, with its unwavering commitment towards the welfare of its citizens, is scripting a story of empowerment and inclusion through a myriad of innovative schemes and programs.

As the gentle waves of the Bay of Bengal kiss the shores of this tranquil territory, the government's initiatives ripple through the lives of its people, leaving behind traces of hope and transformation.

In the fiscal year 2023-2024, the Puducherry administration embarked on a journey to redefine social welfare, focusing on the empowerment of women, the protection of children, and the upliftment of marginalised communities. In its quest to champion gender equality and female empowerment, the Department of Women and Child Development introduced two ground-breaking schemes. The CM Cares scheme, aimed at the empowerment of new born girl children, and the grant of monthly financial assistance to women heads of BPL families, signify a bold step towards addressing gender disparities and promoting socio-economic inclusion.

Under the CM Cares scheme, ₹50,000 is deposited under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana for girl children born on or after 17th March 2023. As of 31st December 2023, 900 girl children have benefited from this initiative, for which ₹4,50,00,000 was utilised, marking a significant investment in the future of Puducherry's daughters.
