Radhakrishnan quits as Sahitya Akademi member

WRITER C Radhakrishnan on Monday resigned as the eminent member of the Sahitya Akademi, alleging attempts to politicise the administration of the national academy dedicated to the promotion of literature.

The annual Festival of Letters organised by the Sahitya Akademi was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal on March 11.
Alleging that the decision to allow a minister to inaugurate the festival was an attempt to politicise the administration, Radhakrishnan said such a move will erode the independent stature of the Akademi.
However, Sahitya Akademi president Madhav Kaushik refuted Radhakrishnan's allegations saying many ministers have participated in the Akademi's literary programmes in the past.
