Punjab parties start poll season with rallies, BJP plans big show on Jan 14

WITH just a year remaining for the Assembly elections in Punjab, the political temperature in the state is rising.
While the BJP is gearing up to hold its first-ever political conference during the Maghi Mela in Muktsar on January 14, the ruling AAP has decided to hold a political rally after 10 years.Other political parties, including the SAD, SAD (Amritsar) and Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), have also announced separate conferences the same day. Meanwhile, the Congress and the SAD (Punar Surjit), the breakaway Akali faction, will not hold any political rally this year. AAP and Congress have decided against any political event at Maghi Mela after 2018 due to a Akal Takht directive.
