Price of tomatoes soars across city, vendors lay blame on incessant rains

Vegetable vendors and wholesalers have blamed rains for disruption in tomato supply, leading to the price of the kitchen staple skyrocketing in retail markets of the city. Local vendors are selling tomatoes in the price range of ₹80 to ₹140 per kg, depending on the quality and the localities.

“It’s hardly 2-3 days since we are witnessing manifold increase in tomato prices. Few days ago it was varying around ₹20-40 per kg but now we are paying more than ₹100 for the same. The retailers are blaming wholesale markets but the common people are suffering. It is not only tomatoes but other vegetables are also being sold at higher rates,” said Shweta Shriwastava, a resident of Yamuna Vihar area.
