NGT directs CPCB to trace barrels of Endosulfan insecticide in Kerala

AFTER untraced over hundreds of barrels of the banned insecticide Endosulfan in Kerala, the National Green Tribunal has ordered the Central Pollution Control Board, the Plantation Corporation of Kerala, and the State Pollution Control Board to investigate and submit a detailed report by the first week of January.
The insecticides pose a severe risk to the environment and human health impacting their genes led the Supreme Court of India to ban the use, manufacture, and sale in 2011. In CPCB’s first report on January 1, 2024, a total of 278 barrels of Endosulfan were documented in Kerala, with only 20 barrels actually recovered at that time. However, in a subsequent report released on July 16, 2025, the CPCB stated that only 69 barrels of Endosulfan were located and
