Manipur mass burial: 7-yr-old among 19 laid to rest amid 12-hour bandh

A mass burial was organised in Kangpokpi district of Manipur on Friday for 19 people belonging to the Kuki Zo community who had lost their lives in the ethnic violence.

The youngest of the victims was a seven-year-old boy while the oldest, a woman, was 85. Remains of the 19 victims had been lying in morgues for almost eight months in Imphal.

A large number of people, including leaders from various tribal organisations, turned up at the Martyr's Cemetery at Phaijang village, some 20 km from district headquarters Kangpokpi, where the last rites were performed.

A 12-hour 'total shutdown' within Sadar Hills-Kangpokpi was observed by people responding to the call of Kuki-Zo organisation Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU).
