Sky Sting's 250-km beyond visual range to fill gaps in IAF capability
INDIA is likely to advance discussions on procuring the Israeli-origin "Sky Sting" longrange beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Israel on Wednesday, it is learnt.
Pitched with an engagement range of around 250 km, the missile is being projected as a solution to bridge a gap in the IAF's long-range air combat capability, even as the indigenous Astra Mk2, with over 200 km range, is being developed.
The Sky Sting, unveiled around three years ago, is under development and is understood to have reached a degree of technological maturity, though it has not yet been inducted into operational service.
