After daycare, IT park to set up centre for elderly
The Morning Standard
|July 21, 2023
A decade after it set up a daycare centre for the children of working professionals at Infopark, the IT park at Kakkanad is embarking on another novel concept to make life easier for its 55,000-odd software employees working there: a care centre for their elderly parents.
The Infopark is in talks with an organisation in its vicinity that successfully runs an elderly care centre, said Susanth Kurunthil, CEO, of the Infopark.
“Just like the daycare centres for children of working parents, today there is also a need for centres or facilities where the elderly parents can be dropped off and picked up. These centres are different from those of the regular old-age homes,” he told this newspaper.
For a state, that has the highest percentage of people in their 60s and above in the country (the percentage shot up from 5 in 2011 to 16.5 in 2021), facilities other than the old age homes that can take care of the elderly in the lines of a daycare centre are the need of the hour.
