CHIEFS, PIRATES CLASH IN DERBY SHOWDOWN
The Mercury
|May 09, 2025
WHENEVER Kaizer Chiefs take on Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby, it is almost always about bragging rights.
-
And it was the Buccaneers who broke the Amakhosi hearts just last week with their 2-1 victory at the FNB Stadium.
Chiefs had thought their luck had finally changed after losing the last few derbies when Makabi Lilepo scored in the second minute. Lilepo even went to the top of the X trends list for most of the match, so popular was his goal for Chiefs.
But Evidence Makgopa grabbed the equaliser for Pirates in the 24th minute, and the youngster of 'Cocomelon football', Relebohile Mofokeng, delivered the fatal blow with the winning strike in the 69th minute.
