Omigod guys, Amy Heckerling's musical adaptation of her 1995 film about a rich Beverly Hills brat finding wisdom and true love is, like, kinda fun.

- NICK CURTIS

This clued-up nostalgia fest is partying as if it's 1995

It features a powerfully sung breakout performance from young New Yorker Emma Flynn as the plaid-clad protagonist Cher Horowitz. I could mutter about yet another risk-averse, crossgenre exploitation of existing intellectual property not just of the movie but of its inspiration, Jane Austen's Emma but frankly it's more fun to just enjoy it.

An all-round nostalgia-fest for the slang, the fashion and the paraphernalia of monied Californians three decades ago, it will give a warm buzz to those with hazy memories of the film (me) and ultra fangirls (my guest), and may prove a period-piece curiosity to those not even born when it was released. Though it's not - to steal the title of the first song in KT Tunstall's score - Perfect.
