Winter hits North East... and it's set to last all week!

WINTER has well and truly arrived in the North East this week, with ice and snow hitting swathes of the region.

The treacherous conditions have resulted in school closures, weather warnings being issued and crashes.

Wednesday night saw the coldest night of the season so far for Northern Ireland, England and Wales, with most of us waking up yesterday morning to a blanket of snow.

The cold snap is expected to last for the rest of the week, and yesterday morning a yellow weather warning of ice was issued by the Met Office.

In Northumberland, the A1 in both directions was partially blocked, and traffic built up due to the amount of snow. The Met Office has issued a number of weather warnings for our region due to the conditions.
