LUKE Hannant believes Gateshead must repay their supporters for their backing this season by claiming a win in Monday's crucial home clash with National League play-off rivals Southend United.

The Heed have spent almost the entire season sat in the top seven of non-league’s top tier and were viewed as possible outsiders to be crowned champions midway through the season. However, a run of just five wins in 21 games since the turn of the year has meant Carl Magnay’s men sit outside of the play-off places ahead of their showdown with the Shrimpers.
Coincidently, it was Monday's vis itors who replaced the Heed in the play-off spots last week as their win against Wealdstone, coupled with Gateshead's defeat at Boston United, meant they now have the upper hand ahead of their trip to the International Stadium.
