Walk and sculpture to mark VJ Day anniversary

TWO veterans who are both over 100 years old will be taking part in the unveiling of a statue honouring those who served in the "Forgotten Army" in Burma during the Second World War.
The event will take place outside South Shields Town Hall today, the 80th anniversary of VJ (Victory over Japan) Day.
It has been organised by Brian Burnie, 81, the founder of the Newcastle cancer care charity Daft as a Brush who also commissioned the statue from North East sculptor Ray Lonsdale.
